We Protect our Puddle of Pitifulness Until we Perceive the Peace of God...

Entitlement is a deadly trap, and we are quick to peg that state on others but never really address our own expectations. We pacify our hearts with self-righteous self-pitifulness, excusing ourselves into our own comfortable corner of miserable pride. We forgive ourselves of our own wretchedness without looking to God’s view of us, His chosen children, concerning His covenant.

I know that's a bit of an aggressive intro, but sometimes I have to have a stern talk with myself...

This morning, as I sat in a puddle of myself, I heard a call on my heart to worship when this song, “Zion” by Aaron Shust, came up on my playlist. I’ve long loved this one because the message is directly from scripture. If you watch the video, they will display each reference from which the lyric is drawn. From that, I felt the prompting to look up the Scriptures, and it humbles me right up out of my puddle.

You see, depression is a slippery slope...I genuinely believe that there are things outside of our control that bring us to this place. I also believe that God grants seasons of it as a blessing for a reason far beyond our understanding. Still, in our flesh — and with Satan’s suggestions — we begin to nurture a spirit that includes a combination of pitifulness, bitterness, and entitlement.

We believe that God “owes us” euphoria...HE DOESN’T!!! HE DOES NOT!!

If we were to dig into the Scripture and watch His pattern, we would see that if we got what we deserved, He would obliterate us with one blink; however, He won’t...because of His great mercy!

So today, if you have protected your puddle with a demand that The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob should do something about...you’ve got it backward. Learn who HE is, and reposition your prayer life to honor Him with proper reverence. Perceiving the peace and joy of God may not change your situation, but it will change your heart in the matter.

If you don't already have a place to fall...start with these verses. Encounter our great and faithful God by learning the full context of even one of these passages below. If you are looking for you...you won't find anything, but if you are looking for Him, you will find everything you need.

Philippians 4:4-8, Exodus 15:2, 1 Peter 1:8-9, Habakkuk 3:19, Zephaniah 3:17, Psalm 118:14.

Ps. You DO NOT want to miss the video of this song!!!
