Let Go and Let God: The Cheesy Church Sign Way to Say That God Really is Sovereign and in Control…

My dear brothers and sisters in Christ…if you are not actively talking about what you are reading in Scripture with someone, you are robbing yourself!!
I learned way back in the day when I was leading workouts, that the best way to “get good” at remembering scripture is to talk about it…is to challenge yourself to articulate the whole story!!
In this season, I am surrounded by a glorious group of girls who are vulnerable and want to grow in the truth of God’s Word so they can share the gospel and strengthen other disciples…so that the name and gospel of Jesus Christ is MULTIPLIED!!!
Our current conversation on learning how to “let go and let God” is blessing me beyond measure…and bringing me back to the joy of fellowship with my siblings through His Word!
Hang with me…you’ll see where this is going!

My dear friend mentioned something all of us battle… the need to control, and the subsequent frazzle within when we can’t! She mentioned this perfect thought she saw…
“When you feel like there’s nothing else that you can do, remember that your prayers can go places that you can’t.”
She went on to encourage us to remember the power of the passage in Romans 8:26-27:
"In the same way, the Spirit also helps us in our weakness, because we do not know what to pray for as we should, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with inexpressible groanings. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because he intercedes for the saints according to the will of God."
She noted that this is where the Holy Spirit takes over, continually reminding her that it’s not about trying to solve everything on her own, but about giving it to the One who can. Even when we feel helpless or don’t know what to say, those prayers still matter. They still reach places we never could on our own. It's there that we simply close our eyes and open our hands like the beggar that we are!!
Her thoughts made me giggle with delight!!! Her “LETTING GO AND LETTING GOD” is the divine evidence of her stepping forward into fellowship with our Sovereign God!!
This is where Tozer's quote comes in…
”What you think about God is the most important thing about you”
When we feel that raging need to control, fix, or save a situation..that is an indication of something we do NOT think — or believe —about God:
He is Sovereign and in control.
This can also reveal our lack of delight in HIS pleasure and an elevation of our own.
Thus…that moment that my dear friend referred to…where we stop, demanding a shutting out of the world and a shut down of our desires, will always be the key to opening ourselves to the Holy Spirit with humility. He loosens our grip and raises our arms in a child-like spirit to the Father…who really does work ALL things together for His glory and our good (Rom 8:28)!!
This week, I am reading the story of Joseph, just over and over, seeing things I’ve seen before and some I’ve never seen at all. One thing I noticed RC Sproul point out is how important it was for Joseph to be misunderstood, betrayed, sold, lied about, and forgotten…every bit of it sets the stage for Moses, the law/the Ten Commandments/the covenant, and ultimately the understanding of the need for sacrifice….the need for our Savior, Jesus/the law of Grace/the new covenant!!!
Thus...if we hang out on all the wrongs done — not only to Joseph, but the wrongs done by Judah, Er, Onan, Tamar…and uggh…this whole jacked up family — we will miss that God said yes to many things that are inconceivable in our estimation. He didn’t create the evil, but He allowed only that which would end in His name being known and multiplied throughout the nations.
If we are not satisfied with that…we will never be content. If we double back and try to control these stories, forcing them into submission to our finite understanding, the will, way, and allowances of God will not be well with our souls.
But...when we remember that His pleasure is not just good, but perfect, we close our eyes "like the beggars we are" and are settled into a place of satisfaction that cannot be matched in this world!
